What is pokemon? Hello, i hope you enjoyed your 10 year nap. Pokemon is an extremly popular series of games in where you train cute, and not so cute pokemon, trade them, and fight them with other trainers. Currently there are 3 games on gameboy, Red, Blue, and yellow. Others will follow soon, there is also a TV Show, 3 N64 games, and various other merchandise. You have probably seen pokemon SOMEWHERE before, if you haven't, get a life.
How do i catch pokemon? You can get new pokemon in many different ways. You can trade with a friend using a game link cable, you can trade with in-game characters as well. However, the most common way to catch pokemon is to find them in the wild and catch them. To catch them you will need:
At least one pokemon At least one pokeball, great ball, ultra ball, or master ball.
Once you have those two things, look around in the tall grass, once a pokemon comes up, you must do a few things to catch it. First off, pokemon that are paralyzed, sleeping, and\or weakened are MUCH easier to catch, also it is easier to catch a pokemon if you have a better ball to catch it with. You will want to weaken the opposing pokemon to about 1/4 it's health, then go to the item menu, select pokeball, and press Down+B(this makes it easier to catch the pokemon usally). Now you will either catch the pokemon, or it will escape. after much practice, this becomes very easy.
How do my pokemon learn new moves? At different levels, pokemon learn new, more powerful moves. Some pokemon learn their moves quicker than others, so much training is neccesary befoer you pokemon learn their best moves.
How do i make my pokemon stronger? If you've ever played RPGs before, than you will have no problem understanding how to strenthen your pokemon. The higher a pokemon's level is, the more powerful. The more experience points you get, the higher your pokemon's level will be. You can also use certain items to make your pokemon stronger. Check out the 'raising weak pokemon' strategy in the walkthrough.
======================================================== 2) Info ========================================================
So What Is So Different About Pokemon Yellow? Well, there are a few differences that i am aware of currently, they include:
Pokemon evolve quicker, and are found earlier. Pikachu follows you around, and you can talk to him! (sorta) Trainers have different pokemon (E.G. Gary starts off with Eevee) The game follows the TV show storyline somewhat, Jessie And James are in the game with their signature Pokemon. Pokedex pictures redone, look better. All pokemon that were in Red\blue can now be found in yellow. (Except for a few) Apparently you cannot get the bike voucher, therefore, you cannot get a bike!
...I am sure there are many more, e-mail me with more!
Allright here it is, in full, the walkthrough for Pokemon: Yellow Edition. Throughout the walkthrough i will outline SEVERAL strategies, i suggest you follow it! Oh and don't complain about the crappy artwork.

Pokemon: Eevee, Pikachu.
Items to find: Potion
Allright, here we go. First go to the computer and withdraw the "Potion", you'll need it soon. Now exit your house and go north, attempting to walk into the tall grass. Dr. Oak will stop you, and take you to his lab. Here you will meet your rival, Gary. Gary will knock you out of the way when you try and get Eeeve, and run off, so...Oak gives you your very own(and only) Pikachu! Now walk out of the house, Gary will stop you and fight you.
********************************************************************** TRAINER: Gary
This is an easy fight, he uses Eevee, you use Pikachu. Just keep using thundershock until Eevee faints. If your HP gets low, use the Potion you withdrew from the computer. You will win $175, and Pikachu will evolve to Lv. 6
Now return to your house, and talk to your mom, she will give you both a rest for free (How nice...) Now exit your house and head north to the grassy area.
******************* ROUTE ONE *******************
Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata.
Items to find: Potion
There are two new Pokemon to catch here, but we'll discuss that later. For now, train your pikachu to Level 10. Yes, it's 4 levels, but it's not that hard, it takes about 6 minutes, and if you cannot be patient for 6 minutes, please stop playing, it will save you a lot of trouble! Anyway, talk to the first person you see, you'll get a potion from him. Continue north to Viridan City.
********************** VIRIDAN CITY **********************
Pokemon: None.
Items to find: Potion, Oak's Parcel.
Nothing to do here yet, go to the Pokemart, get the parcel, and head back to Pallet Town. There is a potion next to a cut-downable(yes, i know it's not a word) tree, that is hidden.
********************* PALLET TOWN *********************
Pokemon: None.
Items to find: Pokedex, Town Map.
Return to Oak's lab, and give him the package, he will then give you and Gary his invention, the Pokedex, which holds information on pokemon you've seen\caught. After that, go to Gary's house, and talk to his sister for a Town Map. Then, go back to Viridan City.
********************** VIRIDAN CITY **********************
Pokemon: Rattata, Pidgey.
Items to find: Pokeball.
First, go to the Pokemart, and buy about 10 Pokeballs. Then, go to the Pokecenter, and heal your pokemon. Now go south to Route One again, and catch a Pidgey and a Rattata. Then return to Viridan, and head west to route 22.
****************** ROUTE 22 ******************
Pokemon: Rattata, Nidoran(m), Nidoran(f), Mankey.
Items to find: None
Catch the 2 Nidorans, and a mankey, they should only take a Pokeball each. You should now have a team of 6 pokemon. I Now advise training all 6 of them(even though the will be useless later) to level 10. If you don't want to\think i'm nuts, then at least train Mankey until he learns low kick. Now go west a bit more, and Gary will challenge you once again.
********************************************************************** TRAINER: Gary
This is another EASY fight, and a good chance to boost pikachu's level to 11. His level 9 spearow is no match for pikachu and his Thundershock. Two of them will kill it easily. Eevee is also easy, Pikachu will have Thunderwave, Tail Whip, Growl, Thundershock. Use a single thunderwave, paralyzing Eevee, then follow with a thunder shock to damage and fully paralyze Eevee, then keep using thundershock. Tail Whip, Growl aren't that effective.
Pikachu should now try and learn "Quick Attack", you will want this move, so let him learn it. Now you should have at the very least a Level 11 Pikachu With Thundershock, Quick Attack, Thunder Wave, and Tail Whip. Go ahead and ditch growl, it's useless! Now head north to Route 2.
******************* ROUTE TWO *******************
Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata, Nidoran(m), Nidoran(f).
Items to find: None
Nothing new here as far as items, pokemon are concerned, but it is a good place to build up your weak pokemon. Train pikachu if you have the time, but make sure you train mankey to level 10 at least! Eventually you will reach Viridan Forest.
Here you will first fight bug catchers, which are trainers. They are very easy to beat, and this isn't exactally a maze either, get the 3 easy to get items, and grab a Pidgeotto, Caterpie, and Metapod. By the time you leave the forest, i suggest your main team consist of level 10 pokemon and higher. If by now you are wondering how to raise your weak pokemon i will tell you, only once, so pay attention. By moving your weakest pokemon to the top of the list, he becomes the first one to fight in battle, instead of making it fight, switch to a stonger pokemon, and when\if you win, the two pokemon will split the EXP. Easy, yes? This works extremly well with the very weak Metapod, who evolves into butterfree at level 10! When you find the exit, AND have you team at level 10+, exit to Pewter City.
********************* PEWTER CITY *********************
Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata.
Items to find: Boulder Badge, TM - Bide.
There is a pokecenter here, so revive your pokemon there, buy a few more pokeballs at the Pokemart. Then go to the southwest region of the small city to find your first Gym! Enter the gym, fight all the trainers, then talk to the Gym Leader: Brock.
If you followed my advice, brock will be a piece of cake. Either use Pikachu's Quick Attack, or Mankey's Low kick and Geodude and Onix will be gone very quickly. If you didn't follow my advice and get\train mankey and pikachu, then your best bet is a Butterfree, which is evolved from Metapod.
Brock will then fork over the boulder badge, which allows you to control higher-leveled pokemon, raises the power of your pokemon, get's you 1/8 closer to the elite four, and it also does the laundry...ooooohh. Also, brock hands over the TM - Bide. I suggest putting this on your highest level pokemon(Pikachu or mankey, i suggest mankey because pikachu will learn better moves soon)
C O L L E C T I N G T H E C A S C A D E B A D G E ************************************************ COLLECTING THE CASCADE BADGE ************************************************ C O L L E C T I N G T H E C A S C A D E B A D G E
Now that Brock is defeated, you can go east of pewter city, finding a trail leading to a large mountain...
========================================================= 5) Best Teams\Suggestions =========================================================
Top 10 Pokemon (In no particular order..kinda)
#10 - Snorlax. Dear god, it's a freaking huge pokemon! This is a very lazy pokemon, but you can tell it is very powerful becasue of it's size. Has good recovery with rest, headbutt is powerful, and he learns great moves. He is the best normal pokemon in the game. Even though he's not unbeatable, it feels good to have this monster on your team!
#9 - Jolteon\Flareon. Good replacements for Charizard\Zapdos. In fact, Jolteon is almost as powerful as Zapdos! Good choices if you are too lazy to train Chamander, and can't get zapdos!
#8 - Charizard. Best fire pokemon in the game. Why so low on the list you may ask? Fire just isn't useful in that many situations. You should have learned that lesson if you picked Charmander in Red\Blue!
#7 - Gyardos. Very easy to get if you follow the building weak pokemon strategy. Can learn hyper beam, among other things. With Hyper Beam, Hydro Pump, Dragon Rage, Body Slam, is near unstopable.
#6 Venusaur. Best grass pokemon in the game, with Solar Beam, Mega Drain, Razor Leaf, (Leech Seed, Vine Whip, Poison Powder) it can kill many different pokemon. Very handy in a lot of situations.
#5 - Zapdos. Another one i don't have yet. Very powerful, if it's like the red\blue version. Best electric pokemon in the game, yes?
#4 - Articuno. Unfortunatly, i do not have Articuno YET. So i cannot yet tell you how good he is, however, he SHOULD come with powerful attacks such as ice beam, blizzard, and be VERY good against dragon\fire\electric pokemon.
#3 - Graveler(I can't get Golem). THE rock pokemon in the game, electric attacks won't even phase it! Normal attacks do little to no damage against him, and his attack and defense are both VERY high! With Earthquake, Dig, Self Destruct, and (Rock Slide, Fissure, Metronome, etc) he is VERY powerful. Also very easy to train.
#2 - Blastoise. The best water pokemon in the game. With Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Skulll Bash, and anything else Blastoise is almost unstopable! Can even beat those powerful, nasty phsycics! Isn't that hard to train either...
#1 - Mewtwo. Was there ANY doubt about this one? I think not! Mewtwo is almost imopossible to beat, and you don't have to train him that hard! His attack Phsycic will kill just about anything! Plus he's the easiest pokemon to catch in the game, with the masterball of course.
Runner Ups\Good Additions
Pikachu - If you cannot\will not get zapdos, pikachu is a perfect addition to your team. He learns good electric attacks, but you have to train him hard. He suffers from extremly low defense, but you can take care of that later.
Hitmonlee\Hitmonchan - The best fighting pokemon in the game. Train them hard and it is pretty hard to kill them. They both start out at level 30 so you don't have to do as much as you would normally. My personal favorite is Hitmonlee.
Dragonite - Two words: Hyper Beam. That is enough right there of a reason to have you train Dragonair for countless hours. Dragonite is the 2nd best pokemon in the game. However, he is EXTREMLY difficult to get.
Aerodactyl - An easy pokemon to get, and a very effective one. If you don't have the patience to train Dragonair, Aerodactyl is a good replacement. Also learns the all-powerful hyper beam.
Kadabra\Alakazam - The 2nd best phsycic pokemon in the game, for obvious reasons. This is a good addition to your team for a while...Once you get Mewtwo however it's bye-bye Kadabra!
Starmie - A good water pokemon to have, but just isn't that useful in this game since you can get blastoise so easily! If you don't like Blastoise(Go figure...) then pick up one of these...
My Current Team, Although No One Really Cares Probably:
1) Level 55 Blastoise With Hydro Pump, Surf, Blizzard, and Skull Bash.
2) Level 58 Graveler With Earthquake, Fissure, Dig, and Self Destruct.
3) Level 38 Charizard With Strenth, Cut, Fire Blast, and Siesmic Toss.
4) Level 32 Venesaur With Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, Mega Drain, and Solar Beam.
5) Level 34 Pikachu With Thunderbolt, Slam, Mega Kick, Thunderwave.
6) Level 19 Kadabra With Psywave, Reflect, Teleport.
I Chose Charizard\Venusar\Blastoise because they are the best of their 3 categories. Graveler Does Well against normal\rock\electric pokemon. At later levels, the Psycic Kadabra will kill anything in it's Path. And Pikachu does well against water pokemon. Yes, my team has a few flaws in it, but is sufficent enough for now. I suggest you get Blastoise, Graveler A.S.A.P.
